Know Your Place — New Exhibition at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum

Know Your Place is an exciting new exhibition at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery, funded by the Arts Council of Wales. Two Welsh female artists — Beth Leahy and Eleanor Whiteman — were commissioned to create new works in direct dialogue with the museum's collection of Crawshay Family portraits. Their work examines hidden histories, social standing, and the deliberate erasure of women from the historical narrative of 19th-century Merthyr Tydfil — one of the most important industrial towns in the world during that era. The resulting artworks are bold, thought-provoking and deeply connected to Merthyr's unique heritage. Both pieces will be permanently accessioned into Cyfarthfa's contemporary collection following the exhibition. Partners include Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museum Wales), Ffotogallery, Jack Arts, and the Cyfarthfa Foundation. The museum is open daily 10am–5pm, April–September (last admission 4:30pm).
